SEFOR Solutions recently participated in the Ukraine Mine Action Conference (UMAC 2024) in Lausanne, Switzerland. This crucial event brought together global experts to address the urgent need for humanitarian mine action in Ukraine, which now faces one of the world’s most severe landmine and explosive ordnance contamination crises.
UMAC 2024 highlighted the devastating impact of these hazards on civilians, agriculture, and essential services. The conference emphasized the critical need for international cooperation and support to clear contaminated areas and enable Ukraine’s recovery. A key outcome was the “Lausanne Call for Action,” with 42 countries pledging their commitment to humanitarian demining efforts in Ukraine and globally.
The conference also underscored the importance of the Ukraine National Mine Action Strategy up to 2033. This comprehensive plan outlines strategic goals and objectives for addressing the crisis, including:
• Systematic land surveys and clearance: Prioritizing the identification and clearance of contaminated areas for safe and productive use.
• Risk education and victim assistance: Raising awareness about explosive ordnance risks and providing comprehensive support to affected individuals.
• Strengthening mine action management: Enhancing coordination, capacity building, and resource allocation for efficient and effective mine action operations.
We are proud to contribute to these efforts and remain dedicated to helping Ukraine overcome this immense challenge.
